A 'moccasin' is an Aboriginal word for 'shoe or slipper'. Our ancestors originally designed these fur-trimmed, hide moccasins to wear indoors through harsh Canadian winters. The Métis Moccasin has all of the iconic moccasin features - fur ankle cuff, beaded vamp and suede outer - which have been passed down to us from generation to generation. Now as a modern Métis company, we continue the tradition by combining modern techniques and materials to make them cozy additions to your everyday life around the house or at the cottage!
The Métis Moccasin is also part of our Signature Collection that features traditional Métis floral beadwork. Métis women were inspired by a mix of European folk art and expert Aboriginal beadwork, so they wove floral patterns into everyday life. For that reason, floral patterns became a defining cultural symbol for Métis people. We're proud to keep that tradition alive!
