Etsy: Made in Canada - Part 2

Erin Larder

Better late than never, here are my finds from the Etsy: Made in Canada pop-up market held on Sept. 26th.  I attended the market in Halifax Nova Scotia with my sister-in-law Kathy and we had a very busy morning!  We spent over two hours strolling through vendors and taking everything in. The majority of the handmade items were housed under a tent with funky newspaper string decorations while the vintage and food booths were outside.  We also got a beautiful east coast September day, sun included!

The variety of vendors didn't disappoint and the quality of the products was outstanding.  My favourite booths included Inkwell Press a local letterpress studio, Doaktextile a textile weaver creating cowls and baskets from recycled materials (I don't see them on her Etsy shop now, but Chantal had amazing floor mats at the market).  There were also a few makers using fabrics and felts such as Small Goods which had some really cool holiday decor items and tea cozies.

My purchases included a basket from Doaktextile, a "Fun Times in the Maritimes" tote from Inkwell Press and manufactured by the Atlantic Bag Manufacturers, as well as the Nova Scotia, Halifax and Dartmouth "Greetings from" postcards and "The Official East Coaster" six pack from Inkwell Press. For Mattie, the feline in my life, I purchased a mouse toy made from a recycled felted sweater with a refillable catnip pouch from Small Goods and I couldn't resist the "Cat Stampede" zipper coin pouch from Poison Pear.

Two of my favourite items which I didn't purchase, but which will definitely be on my Christmas wishlist are slippers by Ewe Boots and ceramic wares by Therese Bombardier Designs.  Ewe Boots uses recycled sweaters to create gorgeous and very cozy wool slippers while Therese Bombardier Designs creates beautiful (and function) ceramic wares including tumblers, mugs, planters and vases.  Therese also has a line of ceramic jewellery.
